Enabling DNSWatch to begin protecting you is a quick, three-step process. Click on the “Get Started” button to go directly to the first step, or if you prefer go to the dashboard first, you can start the setup process at the top of the page.
As you proceed, your progress toward completing the set-up will be shown at the top of the screen.
Step One: IP Address
Step one requires you to assign the IP address that you want to protect with Strongarm. Almost always, DNSWatch will automatically pull the current IP address you are accessing the webpage from. However, if this does not happen, simply enter in your IP address manually. If you aren’t sure what it is, you can find your IP address by Googling, “What is my IP address?”
Step Two: Configure DNS Settings
The next step is configuring your DNS settings. For the Personal version, the simplest option is to use our DNS resolver. Unfortunately every device is a bit different as far as where the DNS settings are set. In most cases, you can look on the front of your router to find the type of router you have then use our videos: Asus, TP-Link, NETGEAR, Linksys, Windows Server or this router setup guide to help you get set up.

Step Three: Generate Test Infection
Once you’ve input your IP address and set up the DNS resolver, it’s time to generate a test infection to make sure everything is up and running as intended. To do so, go to http://strongarm.test. You will then receive an email notification about a fake “infection.” (Don’t worry; your computer and network are perfectly safe.)
This will simply allow you to see what an infection notification will look like. The email will also provide you with a link to the infections dashboard on Strongarm. Simply visit the page sent via email for the test infection, and you’ll be able to see what would happen if you were to be hit with malware while you’re protected by Strongarm.
Note that no harm is done to your computer or network from any test infection.

If you are having trouble generating the test infection (but the DNS test worked), be patient. Sometimes it takes up to two minutes for all the components of Strongarm to know about you.
